Hi there.
4114 custom effects is the branding of me; Dan H, pedal builder and guitar effects nut. I just love building out of production and vintage effects, but I also like to clone expensive boutique pedals. Have a look at my effects pedal gallery to see my latest builds, or just have a poke around my blog to see upcoming projects, effects related musings and general inane ramblings.
All my effects pedals are hand built and hand finished, there are no production line methods, so you know you’re getting a truly unique piece for your pedal board. I differ from other pedal builders in that, as well as building into standard Hammond boxes, I can fabricate my own enclosures, to make the pedal really stand out from the crowd. Graphics can also be tailored and personalised, to really make it your effect!
If you like what you see and you’d like a pedal building, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Even if you don’t end up buying, I’m a friendly guy, and I’m always happy to talk transistors!
I’m also pretty handy with guitar wiring, so if you want a special switching arrangement, or tone control changing, I’m your man.
Enjoy the site, and I look forward to hearing from you!
Pedal Construction Techniques
The circuits.
Most of my circuits are built using Veroboard, sometimes called stripboard. This offers great versatility, as I’m able to tweak and customise pedal designs on the fly, swapping out components to suit a particular build. The large copper traces also make great audio conductors.
All other components are high quality – long-life footswitches, Alpha potentiometers, quality isolated jack and DC sockets and decent 22awg wiring throughout.
The enclosures.
I can use two different methods of enclosure construction. Pedals can be built in standard Hammond style aluminium boxes, these come in three different sizes to accommodate circuits of varying size and complexity. I also fabricate enclosures myself, to give you a truly unique pedal. See some examples in the pedal gallery.
The graphics.
All graphics can be tailored to your liking. Got a cool name for a pedal; we’ll make it a reality. Most pedals also have the choice of saying “custom built for” and your name, to make it truly your own! Please note that due to the small number of pedals I build, I’m not currently set up for screen printing. Therefore graphics will work best as dark colours on a light background, as seen in the effects pedal gallery.
